About Garcia Consulting and Lactation Services

Garcia Breastfeeding Medicine bridges the gap between community lactation support and specialized medical care. Osteopathic Manipulation

Garcia Breastfeeding Medicine integrates osteopathic principles into breastfeeding care. Using Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT), Dr. Garcia identifies and treats musculoskeletal restrictions—such as cranial, cervical, or jaw dysfunctions—that can contribute to latch difficulties, pain, or feeding asymmetry. This whole-person approach complements lactation and pediatric care, enhancing comfort and supporting optimal function for both parent and child.

“I have so many wonderful things to say about Dr Garcia! She was my children's pediatrician for many years and showed so much love compassion and patience with my autistic son. He absolutely loves her still to this day. I have had the pleasure and privilege of watching her grown in her craft in lactation both personally and professionally. It is my complete belief that she has changed the game by being a Doctor and an IBCLC serving many patients right at their bedside after delivery. To take that knowledge and compassion and continue to add to the services she offers is currently helping to improve the mother baby dyad in both lactation and through pediatric care.”

Frequently Asked Questions

What should I do to prepare for my visit?

Before your visit, write down any questions you have. Fill out and return the consent and health history forms sent to you beforehand. Bring or have your breast pump or nipple shield nearby for demonstration purposes. If it’s a home visit, please place pets in another room.

What follow-up can I expect after the visit?

After the visit, you’ll receive a care plan with advice for optimal breastfeeding success. A written report will be sent to your child’s Pediatrician, OB/GYN, or other healthcare providers involved in your care.

What happens at the visit?

During the visit, we’ll conduct an oral exam of the baby, assess the latch, and weigh the baby before and after feeding to address any concerns you have.

Does insurance cover these visits?

Dr. Garcia is in-network with most major insurers in Michigan, including Straight Medicaid. As consultations involve both the parent and infant(s), billing is done independently for each. A co-pay for both may be required, and out-of-network insurance reimbursement or out-of-pocket payment options are available.

If you don’t have insurance, inform us to discuss sliding scale payment options. When checking insurance coverage, ask about a referral to a medical specialist in breastfeeding medicine, not a lactation consultant, as Dr. Garcia is involved in every visit.
